Restroom Trailer vs Porta Potty for Your Wedding

Should I rent a restroom trailer or porta potties for my wedding?
Rent a restroom trailer if the site has a 110V outlet within 100 feet and a garden-hose spigot. A trailer gives guests flushing toilets, running water, lights and A/C. Rent porta potties or flushing units if the site has no power or water. Those units need neither, and cost less for 150 guests.
The rest of this guide shows why. It covers site needs first, because that is the question most couples miss.
What does a restroom trailer need at a wedding site?
A restroom trailer needs 2 things on site. The first is a standard 20-amp, 110V outlet within 100 feet. The second is a garden-hose water spigot. No outlet means a generator add-on from $95 per day. No spigot means a freshwater tank fill, which we quote. Porta potties need neither.
- Power. A 20-amp, 110V outlet within 100 feet, or a generator.
- Water. A hose spigot, or a quoted tank fill.
- Level ground. A flat spot the truck can back a trailer onto.
- A clear route. Room to tow the trailer in without crossing soft lawn.
Backyard weddings at a family home usually have an outdoor outlet and spigot. Ranch and pasture weddings often do not. Walk the site with this list before you pick.

How do restroom trailers and porta potties compare for a wedding?
A 2-stall restroom trailer starts at $1,150 for a weekend and serves about 150 guests for 6 hours. A standard porta potty starts at $175 for up to 3 days. A deluxe flushing unit with a sink starts at $275. All 3 prices are starting points, pre-tax. Trailers add comfort; units add flexibility.

What does each option cost for a 150-guest wedding?
A 150-guest, 6-hour wedding with a bar needs 7 toilets and 2 handwash stations under our sizing method. With 6 standard units, 1 wheelchair-accessible unit and 2 stations, the starting total is $1,445 pre-tax after the 5-unit discount. A 3-stall trailer starts at $1,650 for a weekend, before any generator.
How the 7 units add up
The base is 3 units for 150 guests. A wedding over 4 hours adds 2. A bar adds 2 more. That is 7 units, with 1 of them wheelchair-accessible. Food means 1 handwash station per 4 toilets, so 2 stations. Try your own numbers in the porta potty calculator.
Why the 2-stall trailer may fall short here
A 2-stall trailer serves about 150 guests for a 6-hour event, per manufacturer-rated tank capacity. A busy bar uses the tanks faster than that rating. For 150 guests with a bar, a 3-stall trailer, or a 2-stall trailer plus standard units, is the safer plan.
Orders of 5 or more units on one event get $10 off each unit. Texas sales tax of 8.25% is added to every option.
Do I still need an accessible unit if I rent a trailer?
Yes, plan on at least 1 wheelchair-accessible unit. Restroom trailers have steps up to each door. A guest who uses a wheelchair or walker usually cannot climb them. Our accessible unit has a ground-level floor, grab bars, a door about 34 inches clear and a 60-inch turning space inside.
The accessible unit has no sink inside. Place it near the trailer so guests can still reach running water, or add a handwash station beside it.
Is there a middle option between a trailer and a basic porta potty?
Yes. The deluxe flushing unit with a sink is the middle option. Each one starts at $275 pre-tax for up to 3 days. A deluxe unit has a foot-pump flush, a foot-pump sink with about 20 gallons of fresh water, a mirror, soap and paper towels. A deluxe unit needs no power or water hookup.
Each fill gives about 75 to 100 flushes. Two deluxe units start at $550, well under a $1,150 trailer. See the flushing porta potty with sink for size and setup.
You give up A/C and lights. For a daytime spring or fall wedding, many guests will not miss them.

How do I make the final call?
Answer 4 questions in order. First, does the site have a 110V outlet and a hose spigot? Second, how many guests come, for how many hours, with a bar or not? Third, who needs step-free access? Fourth, what is the budget? Those 4 answers point to a trailer, units, or a mix.
- Check power and water. No to both usually means units.
- Count guests and hours. Use the sizing method above.
- List access needs. Add at least 1 accessible unit.
- Get one quote with 2 options. Forward it to whoever is paying.

More questions about Restroom Trailer vs Porta Potty for Your Wedding
Our venue is a pasture with no power. Can we still have a trailer?
Yes, with a generator add-on from $95 per day. A restroom trailer also needs water from a garden-hose spigot, or a freshwater tank fill that we quote. If the pasture has neither, deluxe flushing units with sinks are simpler. They run on foot pumps and need no water or power.
Is a 2-stall trailer enough for my wedding guest count?
A 2-stall trailer fits most weddings up to about 150 guests. The VIP single-suite trailer has 1 private room. The 2-stall trailer has separate men's and women's doors and serves about 150 guests for a 6-hour event. The 3-stall trailer serves about 250. Heavy-drinking events use the tanks faster, so those numbers drop.
Can grandma in a wheelchair use the restroom trailer?
Restroom trailers have steps up to the door, so a guest in a wheelchair usually cannot use one. Add a wheelchair-accessible unit beside the trailer. That unit has a ground-level floor, grab bars and a 60-inch turning space. The accessible unit starts at $245 pre-tax for an event.
Can I mix a trailer and porta potties at one wedding?
Yes, and many weddings work best that way. A trailer near the reception serves most guests. A wheelchair-accessible unit serves guests who cannot use steps. A standard unit near the parking area or band setup takes pressure off the trailer. We list every piece on one quote.
Is the restroom trailer lit for an evening reception?
Yes. Restroom trailers have LED or electric lights inside, powered by the same 110V outlet or generator. Standard porta potties have no electric light, only a translucent roof. For an evening wedding with standard units, place battery lanterns at the doors and along the path.
The bride's parents are paying. Can you send them the quote?
Yes. We text a forwardable itemized quote so you can send it to whoever pays. It lists each unit, rental days, delivery, any generator add-on and 8.25% Texas sales tax. We can also put a trailer option and a flushing-unit option on one quote so they can compare.
